The sea was a mill pond before this weekend's
cold front moved through. Much of the Hatteras
fleet, and some outboard boats were mixed in
with the Oregon Inlet fleet. Fishing took place
along the warm water change and ran from
offshore of the Point to approx 10 miles SE of
the point. Boats encountered a great bite of
bluefin tuna in the 80" class at lines in, and a
few bites continued through the late
morning. After a little afternoon lull, many
boats began to fish a little closer to the
change in water temps ranging around 74
degrees. The afternoon produced a fair yellowfin
tuna bite and some steady bluefin tuna
bites. Hammerhead sharks and bait very plentiful
along the change and we encountered a couple
mako sharks attacking our trolling baits. Our
day finished with a release on an 83" bluefin
tuna, a couple yellowfin tuna, a few mako bites
and two other bluefin tuna hookups.
We are hauling the Canyon Blues out tomorrow
morning at Bayliss Boatworks, after which we
will move to a nearby boat shop for the next
month. During our time in the shop, we will be
receiving a new paint job, upgrades our to
running gear, interior, and engine room. I am
looking forward to getting all this work
accomplished and back to fishing for our Spring
tuna and dolphin run.
While we are not sure exactly how long our work
will take, we are currently taking reservations
beginning mid March. |

Bluefin Tuna have arrived at Oregon
Inlet! Thanks to Justin, Marty, Jose,
Scott, & Matt for two fun days of fishing. Our
first day sported great weather and modest
fishing, with a few blackfin tuna and
amberjack caught off of Diamond
Shoals. Yesterday's weather dictated that we
fish a little closer to home. With warm water
and plenty of bird life outside of 100 fathoms,
we got no bites until 10:30 when the
bluefin tuna showed on the surface. Our
first pass through the school got us 3 hookups
on 50lb class
standup gear. One fish broke the
line after 30 minutes, but the other two stayed
on for a 4 hour fight that carried us 9 miles to
the NE. With seas building to over 8 ft, we
turned up the heat on the fish and got two
releases of bluefin
over 300lbs at 2:30 that afternoon. Great job
guys! |

Sorry this report is a bit late in coming. We
have had a busy August. We had a good showing in
the White Marlin Open and I would like to thank
everyone who fished with us (Walt, Jamie, Jr.,
Tony, Lee, and Bobby). We could not do it
without you guys so thanks again for all your
support. The rest of the month we filled in with
some great charter fishing for both tuna and
white marlin. Not to mention the two days of fun
fishing in the Poor Girls Open. Thanks to all
who participated. I have moved the boat back
to Oregon Inlet NC. The white
marlin fishing is off the hook. If anyone would
like to book a trip please give me a call before
it starts to cool off. If it stays like it did
last year we should have a few weeks left of
great fishing for marlin before we turn back to
tuna fishing. |

Canyon Blues is now fishing out of Ocean City,
Maryland. So far the tuna action has remained
good. We still have bluefin tuna inshore and the
yellowfin tuna have been on the edge of the
“Canyons.” We had a good first day in the tuna
tournament last weekend. but we could not follow
it up on Sunday. Thanks to all the guys who hung
in there and fished with us again this year. The
marlin fishing has also been great this year
with a good number of blue marlin and plenty of
white marlin around. Please let me know if you
looking to book a day offshore. Stay tuned for
more reports coming soon. Thx. Capt. Larry |

The dolphin fishing out of Oregon Inlet is still
going strong with the big gaffers showing up
daily. We will have the boat in NC for 10 or 12
more days so give a call if you might want to
book a trip. I will then be heading to Ocean
City, Md. The latest reports out of Ocean City
are TUNA TUNA TUNA and we start fishing there on
the 9th of July. Let me know when you would like
to put a trip together. Also we still have 2
spots for the White Marlin Open. If you have
never fished the White Marlin Open here is a
great chance to fish in great tournament so just
give me a call. Thx. Capt. Larry |

Murphy's Law caught us off guard. The boat's
been out of commission for a blown motor but
we're ready to take advantage of the fishing
now.
The latest report out of Oregon inlet is still
plenty of dolphin around and the white marlin
have shown up. We will be fishing out of Oregon
Inlet through July 2nd in then we head to Ocean
City Md. for the summer. There are still good
days open so please call if you would like to
book a trip. Thx. Capt. Larry |

The dolphin fishing is still good with
limit catches most days. We
have seen some better tuna action but the bite
seams to come and go. We do feel it will
continue to improve. The charter boats I have
talked to in Morehead still have it good down
there. It is just a matter of time until they
move north. And on a plus note the blue marlin
have made a very good showing so far this
spring. Keep checking in for updates. |

Most
of last week was weathered out do to the strong
winds. But after everything died down the boats
got offshore again to find some nice yellowfin
tuna the past two days. Most boats caught
between 7 and 12. There are also some dolphin in
the area. We are just expecting the big gaffers
to start showing up soon. Anyone who is thinking
about a trip in May should book it now. It’s
only going to get better. |

This past weekend out of Oregon Inlet the weather was good and the
boats did get out. The fishing for the most part
remains scattered. We were able to find some
gaffer dolphin a hand full of blackfin tuna and
there are some larger bluefin tuna still hanging
around. Things are really starting to shape up
for what looks like a good spring season! |
